L'ville 10 - Haverford 9 (OT)
Wow, this was a good game. Say what you want about prep schools, blah, blah, blah...this was pretty solid lacrosse.
The refs let both sides play and it got physical, but not out of control. I honestly thought Haverford was going to to have their way with L'ville, and they did for a couple of quarters.
I think the fatal flaw in Haverford's game plan was to sit on a one goal lead with 4+ minutes to go. Since they weren't really attacking the goal, the refs but the stall warning on at roughly 4 minutes and Haverford was content to hold the ball. One of the L'ville D-poles made a great takeaway check and moved the ball down the other end. L'ville took their time, worked for a good shot and tied it.
The game winner in overtime was classic. I hope someone got this on video, because I'm not even sure who made the awesome shot. One of the L'ville attackmen drove up from behind the cage, lil lean outside, lil lean inside, and then basically shot the ball between his legs/under his shoulder with his back to the goal. The Haverford goalie had no idea where the ball was/where it came from and next thing he knows the ball is behind him in the goal.
Really, really good lacrosse game. Good luck to both teams the rest of the way.
